Redeemable TV: Luther, Dexter, and Fringe

I like a lot of bad stuff. We’re talking bad TV shows, bad movies, bad songs, even some bad food (K-Mart pizza FTW!). The reason I can say this and say I have good taste is because I know these are bad. I won’t argue with you about them. Hell, one of my favorite movies of all time is also (in my and so many others’ opinion) one of the worst movies of all time: Con-fuckin’-Air. I’ll get to writing about Con Air in a future post (because it deserves it), but the reason I mention it is because it’s just bad. You can’t say “it’s bad, but…”, because there is no ‘but’. On the flip side of that, I’d like to talk about 3 shows I’ve been watching who have that ‘but’. The redemptive factor. The thing that makes it OK for you to watch it and, dare I say, enjoy it.

Smokey the Bear says: Only you can prevent shitty music… (Part 2)

So, I had my rant (and rant I did) in Part 1. Time to talk about good music in Part 2. And when I say that, my head inevitably goes to Minus the Bear. I’ll get into detail in a second but let me just say I’ve never seen a band like this. 4 albums, each one different than the last. They’ve never changed their sound, yet they never sound the same. And the real mind-boggler: every album is just as good as the last. We’re talking 4 studio albums, 3 early EP’s, 1 remix album, and 1 acoustic EP. Yeah, they know what they’re doing. Plus, how awesome is a band that has 2 songs off of their debut full-length album named after Starship Troopers quotes? “Damn Bugs Whacked Him, Johnny” and “You Kill Bugs Good Man”. Simply awesome.

Smokey the Bear says: Only you can prevent shitty music… (Part 1)

Today’s title is a double-post, if you will. I’m going to be talking to you about a fantastic band called Minus the Bear, but, first and foremost, I need to address my means of acquiring my music and my reasons for doing so. If you’re only here for the music and want to skip ahead to Part 2, where I talk about MtB, I won’t think less of you… Ok, I will think less of you, but you’ll never know.

I haven’t bought more than 20 records in the last 5 years.

Getting Started

*Immediate inexperience update: I’ve found my first roadblock, as you may have noticed. How the hell do I get Tumblr to embed the YouTube videos in my post?*

You know that guy who’s always sending you stuff to look at online? Could be a trailer for some upcoming film, a new song by a band you like, or just some internet randomness that compels the viewer to share it with everyone. That guy is me.
